Program Enrollment Monthly Timeline:

South Texas Transition to Teaching-ACP has open enrollment all year long! Below you will find your own personalized process in what is expected to obtain your teacher certification based on the enrollment month. The following information is intended for EVERYONE who is looking to apply at SoTex-ACP

 

  • Admission: Applicants must meet our minimum requirements for our admission process.
    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • GPA minimum of 2.5
  • Submit your transcript(s) as soon as possible! If you have transferred credits from other institutions, we will need those transcripts too
  • Decide what you want to teach! Select the following link for our list of Certification Areas: Cert. Areas

January Enrollment

What’s Next!? if you enroll in January, this is what you must do!

Sign a formal letter of Acceptance stating that you accept to enroll in our program.

Sign our FERPA agreement, allowing us to share your contact information with any district.

You will be given a New Student Orientation that will explain our program policy and state requirements

You have to complete the following before you start applying for a teaching position:

  • Pass TExES exam(s) *if you have not done so*
    • Sign up for the next Preparational class! We will add you to our waiting list for our next mandatory class that you must attend.
        • Must attend a full session
        • Must benchmark within 30 days of the day of class and score a minimum of 80% to obtain access to test
  • 30 observation hours
    • 15 Teacher Observation
    • 15 Student Interaction
  • 150 hours of Coursework training hours
    • Must participate in Professional Development Training sessions
  • Pass the PPR exam (recommended prior to internship)
    • Sign up for the next PPR class! We will add you to our waiting list for our next PPR mandatory class that you must attend.
        • Must attend a full session
        • Must benchmark within 30 days of the day of class and score a minimum of 80% to obtain access to test

Once you have passed the required exam(s) and completed the 180 hours have been completed as per TAC Rule §228.20 You will be given a Letter of Recommendation to begin applying in school districts. Your contact information will also be provided to our partner districts. 

Once you obtain a teaching position (sign a contract) you must inform us RIGHT AWAY to begin your certification!

You must apply/pay for the INTERN/PROBATIONARY Certificate (we will show you how!)

If you have not passed the PPR, you have 1 year during your certification year to pass!!

To complete your certification you must:

  • Have worked 180 days as a teacher
  • Have passed the PPR exam
  • Have completed all 300 hours worth of training required by State
  • Have been observed by an assigned Field Supervisor for a total of 3 – 5 observations (depending on the certificate) during your certification year

Once your assigned program specialist completed a final audit on your file, if it is completed, you will receive instructions on how to apply/pay for the Standard Certificate

SoTex ACP will recommend your Standard after the Director reviews your completed file

You will obtain your Teaching Certificate within 45 minutes of recommendation!

February Enrollment

What’s Next!? if you enroll in February, this is what you must do!

July Enrollment

Schools are closed so you will need to focus on completing the 150 pre-internship training courses and passing the TExES exam, the PPR exam(recommended prior to internship). For each preparation class offered, you must follow a testing policy that will be provided to you upon enrollment.

  • 150 hours of Coursework hours
    • If the school year has ended, you can always focus on completing the pre-internship courses that do not require you to be in a class setting. You will need to wait until the school year begins once again to complete the trainigs that you are missing from the pre-internship courses and Observation & Interaction hours.
    • Must participate in Professional Development Training session

Once the following school year begins,  you will now need to complete the following hours in the first weeks of September:

  • 30 observation hours
    • 15 Teacher Observation
    • 15 Student Interaction

******Ask if you qualify for the “Late Hire Provision” This allows you to apply and obtain a teaching position without needing to complete the 180 hours of coursework training (150 Pre-Internship & 30 FBE)

Late Hire Provision

    • If the school year has not begun, you can always focus on completing the pre-internship courses that do not require you to be in a class setting. You will need to wait until the school year begins once again to complete the trainigs that you are missing from the pre-internship courses and Observation & Interaction hours.

  • 30 observation hours

*If you are eligible for the late hire provision, you can begin to apply for a teaching position under the area you are pursuing before completing the 180 hours of coursework training. If you wish to apply, contact your assigned program specialist for a Letter of Recommendation. Your contact information will also be provided to our partner districts.

Once you obtain a teaching position (sign a contract) you must inform us RIGHT AWAY to begin your certification!

You must apply/pay for the INTERN/PROBATIONARY Certificate (we will show you how!)

Certification start and end date prediction schedule:

If you have not taken/passed the PPR, you have 1 year during your certification year to pass!!

To complete your certification you must:

  • Have worked 180 days as a teacher
  • Have passed the PPR exam
  • Have completed all 300 hours worth of training required by State
  • Have been observed by an assigned Field Supervisor for a total of 3 – 5 observations (depending on the certificate) during your certification year

Once your assigned program specialist completed a final audit on your file, if it is completed, you will receive instructions on how to apply/pay for the Standard Certificate

SoTex ACP will recommend your Standard after the Director reviews your completed file

You will obtain your Teaching Certificate within 45 minutes of recommendation!

What’s Next!? if you enroll in November, this is what you must do!

Sign a formal letter of Acceptance stating that you accept to enroll in our program.

Sign our FERPA agreement, allowing us to share your contact information with any district.

You will be given a New Student Orientation that will explain our program policy and state requirements

You will now need to complete the following hours:

  • Pass TExES exam(s) *if you have not done so*
    • Sign up for the next Preparational class! We will add you to our waiting list for our next mandatory class that you must attend.
        • Must attend a full session
        • Must benchmark within 30 days of the day of class and score a minimum of 80% to obtain access to test
  • 30 observation hours
    • 15 Teacher Observation
    • 15 Student Interaction
  • 150 hours of Coursework hours
    • Must participate in Professional Development Training session
  • Pass the PPR exam(recommended prior to internship)
